DESCRIPTION

This house consists on 2 full floors totaling 1735 square feet. The house was built in 1993 and contains the popular "reverse floor plan." This plan allows the best views from the upstairs living areas while the bedrooms are downstairs. An enclosed entrance and stairway leads from the concrete driveway under the house to the first living floor. Your key unlocks the lock and deadbolt on both this ground entrance and the 1st floor entrance. If you have forgotten you key or locked it inside ... there is a spare key hidden as instructed in the cover letter in the package in which you received the key. Please use the spare key for emergencies only. A full-size washer and dryer are in a room off this entrance way. This first floor has 3 bedrooms, a sitting room (with cable TV) and a full bath. Two of the bedrooms contain double beds. The third room has a bunk bed with a roll-out trundle as a third bed. One bunk and the trundle are single beds while one bunk is a double bed. PLEASE FURNISH YOUR OWN SHEETS, PILLOW CASES, BATH TOWELS AND DISH TOWELS. The stairway off the sitting room leads to the upstairs living area. This floor consists of the master bedroom, living area, dining area, full bath and kitchen. The master bedroom has a queen size bed. The bath is a full bath with a jacuzzi tub. PLEASE DO NOT TURN ON THE JETS IN THE TUB UNTIL THE WATER LEVEL IS ABOVE THEM. The tub also has a hand-held shower head.

The kitchen is large and fully equipped. Equipment includes a dish washer, toaster, coffee maker, microwave and blender. There is enough silverware, dishes and glasses to serve 10. The dining area is off the kitchen separated by a breakfast counter and 2 stools. The dining area has a long wooden table that seats 10. The living area has a cable TV, VCR and stereo system. So please bring whatever videos, tapes or cassette tapes that you enjoy. There are several video rental stores in the area that rent movies to vacationers.

The decks on each level face east to provide beautiful views of the Atlantic. There is a low-rise condominium complex across the Beach Road. PLEASE DO NOT CUT THROUGH THE COMPLEX TO GET TO THE BEACH. THERE IS A PUBLIC BEACH ACCESS 200 YARDS NORTH OF THE HOUSE AT 1ST STREET. The concrete driveway under the house has a picnic table and barbecue grill for your enjoyment. There is also an outside shower and fish cleaning table located at the back of the driveway.
The house is within walking distance of several restaurants including Goombay's and Papagayo's. The Beach Road has been widened but please be careful of traffic. There is now a bicycle lane on both sides of the Beach Road.

The central-air is a dual controlled system with thermostats on each floor that operate independently of each other. A unit of this type is most efficient when left at 75 degrees. PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT THE HOUSE IS LEFT CLEAN FOR THE NEXT TENANTS. A vacuum, mop and all cleaning supplies are provided. The house will be inspected after you leave for cleanliness and damages. If you would like to have the cottage cleaned by a service when you leave; this can be arranged through me for a charge of $65. Arrangements must be made previous to arrival at the beach. After the inspection and your returning of the key (via mail to my home), the deposit will be returned to you by check. If the cleaning is not satisfactory or any damages occur; the cost will be deducted from the deposit. PLEASE DO NOT PUT MORE THAN NINE (9) PEOPLE IN THE "BEACH CRAB."

LOCATION / DIRECTIONS

1510 VIRGINIA DARE TRAIL
KILL DEVIL HILLS, NORTH CAROLINA

Take Interstate 95 South from Washington, D.C. to Interstate 295 (Beltway around Richmond, Virginia) to Interstate 64 East. Exit I-64 onto I-664 across from the Hampton Coliseum. The I-664 exit is to the right and is well marked. Take I-664 through the tunnel, I-664 will end at I-64. Exit onto I-64 (now you are heading North). Exit I-64 at Route 168 (Exit #291B). Follow Route 168 into North Carolina where it becomes Route 158, crossing the Currituck Sound Bridge to the Outer Banks.

Once on the Outer Banks, take the Beach Road (Virginia Dare Trail or Highway 12) past the milepost #7 to just before the Wright Memorial. The "Beach Crab" is on the right side of the Beach Road (1510 Virginia Dare Trail). The "Beach Crab" is past the 13th house on the right past 1st Street.

An alternate route is to proceed on the Route 158 bypass (south) to the Kill Devil Hills Fire Department and water tower. Take a left at the next stop light which is 1st Street. Take 1st Street until you dead end on Virginia Dare Trail (the Beach Road). Take a right on Virginia Dare Trail. The "Beach Crab" is the 13th house on the right.

HOUSE RULES / GENERAL INFORMATION

WINDOWS
When leaving the cottage even for a short period of time, please close the windows. Sudden rain storms often come with little or not warning.

CLEANING
It is important that you leave the house clean for the next people. At the rates I have offered, it is impossible to hire a cleaning crew. All cleaning materials (including bucket, mop, etc.) are provided. A cleaning service can be arranged for a separate fee (arrangements must be made previous to arrival at the beach house).

REFRIGERATOR
Please leave refrigerator and freezer settings at mid-range. When you first arrive at the cottage and you put warm foods in the refrigerator, please allow time for the refrigerator to cool the foods before calling for maintenance. Warm foods take a long time to cool.

PETS
Absolutely NO PETS are allowed under any circumstances. Violation of this rule will result in forfeiture of the initial deposit and will be grounds for immediate eviction.

OUTDOOR GRILLING
The grill is chained to the downstairs (ground level) deck. Please be careful when grilling.

FIRE EXTINGUISHER
A fire extinguisher is located in the kitchen area. Please make sure everyone is aware of the location.

TELEPHONE
There is a telephone at the cottage. The number is (252) 441-8556. The phone has a call block for making long distance calls. All long distance calls must be made with a calling card or charged to another number.

TRASH PICKUP
Trash pickup is on Tuesdays and Fridays. Please make sure dumpster is wheeled to the roadway and returned under the house after it is emptied.

MAINTENANCE PROBLEMS
If you should have any major problems with the cottage applicances, furnishings, etc., please call and report them to Kim Piddington at 441-4071. He can be reached at work on the non-emergency number at the Collington Fire House at 441-6234 (from 8 AM to 5 PM daily). Please inform me of any problems upon your return.
