DESCRIPTION

The house is 1650 square feet and sits on roughly one acre of wooded serenity. The house is 450 feet from the road and is located on the Albemarle Sound. The house consists of one open ground level and two upper levels of living area. The ground level is latticed with a concrete floor. An outside (hot and cold) shower is on this level with an enclosed dressing area, a fish cleaning table with running water is beside the shower. Two stairways rise to the first lower living level. This floor is enclosed on all four sides by a deck. The lower level consists of four bedrooms and two full baths. The two water side bedrooms have sliding glass doors that open to a deck and a beautiful view of the sound. The other two bedrooms have sliding glass doors that open to the deck and a view of wood on both sides. One bathroom has a shower/tub. The second bath has a shower/Jacuzzi tub. This tub is a two person design with 4 jets. There is one queen size bed (master bedroom); one double bed, one set of bunk beds and two single beds. Every bedroom contains Cable TV. This house sleeps eight comfortably. NO MORE THAN EIGHT PEOPLE IN THE SOUND CRAB. Blankets and pillows are provided for all beds. PLEASE FURNISH YOUR OWN SHEETS, PILLOW CASES, BATH MATS, BATH TOWELS AND DISH TOWELS.

A juniper lined stairway leads to the top floor. This floor includes one great room, dining room, kitchen, ½ bath, and a screened porch. This level has cathedral ceilings and oversized glass doors. These glass doors combined with half circle and stained glass windows afford a breathtaking water and woods view. The kitchen is fully equipped with a built-in microwave, electric stove, dishwasher, and refrigerator with an automatic ice maker. A blender, coffee maker, crockpot, toaster, pots and pans, dishes, crab steamer, etc. are also available. A counter seats six and can be used for dinner or entertaining. A full size washer and dryer are located in a storage area on this floor.

A picnic table and a barbecue are available on the deck. The deck covers two sides of the upper level while the porch covers the third side. Rising from this level of deck is a roof top deck. This deck is 35 feet off the ground. It is carpeted and has built in seating and offers another fabulous view of the sound and sunsets. This house contains a central heat pump/air conditioning unit. A unit of this type is most efficient when left at 75 degrees. The unit can be shut off completely and just the ceiling fans in the great room can be turned on. A stereo with AM/FM radio and cassette tape with CD player is located in the great room. Please bring whatever tapes or CDs you enjoy. Cable TV, DVD player and a VCR are provided in the living room. The house contains a central vacuum.

A pier extends 130 feet onto the sound and is 8 feet wide. At the end of the pier is a dock with a gazebo. The gazebo contains a table and 4 chairs. Fishing is permitted. The water level is shallow (less than 2 feet), but PLEASE KEEP A WATCH ON YOUNG CHILDREN.

LOCATION / DIRECTIONS

1412 FIRST STREET
KILL DEVIL HILLS, NORTH CAROLINA

Take Interstate 95 from Washington, DC to Interstate 295 (Beltway around Richmond, VA) to Interstate 64. Exit I-64 onto I-664 across from the Hampton Coliseum. The I-664 exit is to the right and is well marked. Take I-664 through the tunnel. I-664 will end at I-64. Exit onto I-64 (now you are heading North). Exit I-64 at Route 168 Bypass (Exit# 291B). Follow Route 168 into North Carolina where it becomes Route 158, crossing the Currituck Sound Bridge to the Outer Banks.

Take Route 158 Bypass past the Milepost #7 to just before the Wright Memorial. Turn right on Landing Drive. (If you pass the Wright Memorial or Milepost #8, you’ve gone too far). Continue down Landing Drive until it ends at First Street. Take a left on First Street. The house is ¼ mile from the turn off of Landing Drive on the right side (water side). There is a chain link fence on the front of the property. There is a sign on a post at the beginning of the drive way that says “The Sound Crab” (the house is teal). If you pass the house, the street will dead end in a cul-de-sac.

HOUSE RULES / GENERAL INFORMATION

WINDOWS
When leaving the cottage even for a short period of time, please close the windows. Sudden rain storms often come with little or not warning.

CLEANING
It is imperative that you leave the cottage clean for the next people. At the rates I have offered, it is impossible to hire a cleaning crew. All cleaning materials (including bucket, mop, etc.) are provided. A cleaning service can be arranged for a separate fee (arrangements must be made previous to arrival at the beach house).

REFRIGERATOR
Please leave refrigerator and freezer settings at mid-range. When you first arrive at the cottage and you put warm foods in the refrigerator, please allow time for the refrigerator to cool the foods before calling for maintenance. Warm foods take a long time to cool.

PETS
Absolutely NO PETS are allowed under any circumstances. Violation of this rule will result in forfeiture of the initial deposit and will be grounds for immediate eviction.

OUTDOOR GRILLING
The grill is chained to the upstairs deck. Please be careful when grilling.

FIRE EXTINGUISHER
A fire extinguisher is located in the kitchen area. Please make sure everyone is aware of the location.

TELEPHONE
There is a telephone at the cottage. The number is (252) 441-6621. The phone has a call block for making long distance calls. All long distance calls must be made with a calling card or charged to another number.

TRASH PICKUP
Trash pickup is on Tuesdays and Fridays. Please make sure the dumpster is wheeled to the roadway and returned under the house after it is emptied.

MAINTENANCE PROBLEMS
If you should have any major problems with the cottage appliances, furnishings, etc., please call and report them to Kim Piddington at 441-4071. He can be reached at work on the non-emergency number at the Collington Fire House at 441-6234 (from 8 AM to 5 PM daily). Please inform me of any problems upon your return.
